We want to share a life-saving story with you all on Instagram. We love getting these emails about your success when you step up and save a life. It makes our jobs here at Recon Medical that much more rewarding!!! From a volunteer group: “We checked mcgraw and vernor but saw no one. We were driving toward fort and I felt we should just drive by NJC (We never do this as we save this for the end of the night to give out any remaining hot chocolate etc). It's almost 10 at night and we noticed a crowd in front of the building, saw a person on the ground, I assumed it was an overdose and as we were pulling over to park one of the ladies we know was frantically waving at us. I parked, got out as several people were screaming at us that this guy slit his wrist and was bleeding (more to the story than that -but can’t share). I immediately saw the blood everywhere!! All of us got out of the vehicle, Jim grabbed our fanny pack and gave it to me which we knew had tourniquets and what we would need initially, Jim was on it too, Lis brought the emergency/airway bag. Both Al and Lisy ran back and forth to the vehicle/bags as we needed supplies. I feel we worked very well together even though lots of people were on drugs and were drunk-it was a pretty volatile crowd surrounding the man on the ground. I was able stop the bleeding after two tourniquet applications, and were able to cut his clothing off his upper extremities and torso. Jim kept talking to the patient and trying to keep people back. Pt kept going in and out of consciousness-we started to do an large bore IV-but the seen was not safe and lots of folks were freaking out. Crazy-they had been waiting on EMS and after we stopped it still was 25mins before they got there.” #steppingup #savinglives #tourniquet #reconmedical
